Games/Split-Key Escape Room
A virtual escape room where nobody can solve it alone
Halcyon Deep is a research station 400 metres down, cracked by a tremor. The crew left in the first pod. Your team is the night shift nobody woke, with four sealed sections and the last pod between you and the surface.
Every player gets a different role and a different screen. The engineer has the schematics, the radio operator has the signals, the medic has the readouts. One person's clue is only the key to someone else's, so the room opens when the whole team talks it through.
How it plays
From link to leaderboard.
Host sets it up
Sign in, create an event, share the link. Players join from their own laptops with just a name.
Roles are dealt
Engineer, Navigator, Archivist, Radio Operator and Medic. With fewer than five, someone holds two.
Five locks, 45 minutes
Each lock chains three or four roles together. Read yours out, listen, work it out before the clock runs down.
Leaderboard
With several teams, everyone plays at once and a live leaderboard shows who got out first.
Who sees what
Different screen, same call.
Everyone plays on their own laptop and sees something nobody else does. That’s the whole trick: the only way through is to talk.
- Engineer
- Schematics and panels: valves, moorings, circuits, the pod console.
- Navigator
- Charts and coordinates: the sea floor, the bay plan, ascent lanes.
- Archivist
- Logbooks and procedures: which rule applies to each lock.
- Radio Operator
- Signals and pulses: beacons, echoes, the surface transmission.
- Medic
- Readouts: tank pressures, decompression times, cabin CO₂.
